Flynn et al 20 also studied the Step 2 diet in 20 hypercholesterolemic subjects (10 men, 10 postmenopausal women) for 4 weeks and found that compared to a high-fat and high-saturated fat “baseline” diet, the step II diet reduced TC and LDL-C ( as well as HDL-C) and increased VLDL-cholesterol and the TC: HDL-C ratio. When these same investigators combined the step II diet with an energy restriction to produce weight loss, the lipoprotein response was improved.…”
