Lipase from Rhizopus oryzae R1: in-depth characterization, immobilization, and evaluation in biodiesel production

Abstract: Background Rhizopus species is among the most well-known lipase producers, and its enzyme is suitable for use in many industrial applications. Our research focuses on the production of lipase utilizing waste besides evaluating its applications. Results An extracellular lipase was partially purified from the culture broth of Rhizopus oryzae R1 isolate to apparent homogeneity using ammonium sulfate precipitation followed by desalting via dialysis. “…Beyond 45°C activity decreases up to 75°C. The optimum temperature of free lipase was found to be quite similar with results obtained by Hombalimath et al,2020 andHelal et al, 2021.Both enzyme preparations showed considerable activity in the broad pH range of 5.0-10.0, the results suggested that optimal pH of the immobilized lipase shifted to pH 8 and free lipase at pH5(Fig. 3).…”

“…To abate the issues related to chemical catalyst the use of biocatalyst was encouraged. Due to the high stability of enzymes as well as their convenient production, they are the best biocatalysts for producing biodiesel (Helal et al, 2021). Owing to the robust versatility and specificity of lipase to catalyze wide range of bioconversion reactions, the focus is required to explore indigenous bacterial strains with high catalytic efficiency and cost effective biocatalyst.…”

“…Polymorphism information content (PIC) corresponds to its ability to detect the polymorphism among individuals of a population [ 26 , 27 ]. The PIC maximal value for dominant markers is 0.5 [ 26 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 ]; that is what we obtain as output from the online tool [ 35 ]. On the other hand, some studies reported a PIC value for dominant markers higher than 0.5 [ 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ].…”

“…Although the main focus of antibiotic discovery in this current pipeline is still of non-extreme habitats of rare Actinomycetes, some researchers believe extreme conditions will be favorable to find more diversity in Actinomycetes and its unique metabolites. Several antimicrobial agents and other biologically active compounds sought from Actinomycetes have been discussed in many papers over the recent decades [ 103 , 104 , 105 , 106 , 107 ]. Those findings still consider Actinomycetes to be one of the largest producers of antimicrobial compounds.…”
