This study investigates the linguistic-pragmatic characteristics of “conflict activity” (CA) collocations in English business media discourse through a lexical-semantic analysis. By examining a corpus of articles from prominent American business news outlets, we identified 426 collocations that constitute the CA lexical-semantic field. These collocations were scrutinized for their expressiveness, cultural markers, appellative function, and their role in conveying business realities. The research found that language in American business media discourse exhibits a blend of informative and expressive functions, prevalence of clichés, engagement techniques, culturally marked units, and a dominance of the appellative function. The study also highlighted how stylistic devices like metaphor, metonymy, antithesis, and hyperbole endow expressiveness to the core lexemes. Findings contribute to our understanding of the lexical-pragmatic characteristics of business media discourse and offer a nuanced insight into their role in shaping readers' perceptions and attitudes.

Результаты исследования могут найти практическое применение в курсе лексикологии, прагмалингвистики, дискурсологии, профессионального перевода, лингвокультурологии, теории межкультурной коммуникации. within the framework of the study, a thematic classification of general collocations with different morphological characteristics, their transformations, as well as recurrent constructions used in scientific image discourse was created. On the basis of this classification the belonging of the above mentioned stable combinations to lexico-semantic groups and semantic fields is determined. Studies devoted to the strategies of image-based scientific and educational discourse, as well as to the dominant concepts in the PR sphere have been studied. The results of the undertaken analysis show the connection between the use of collocations and the verbalization of the main concepts of scientific institutional image Internet discourse and the implementation of its discursive strategies, namely the strategies of self-presentation and inducement. It is shown that the use of general collocations, their transformations, as well as recurrent constructions, is associated with the verbalization of individual elements of the concepts of Intellectual activity, Leadership, Success, Improvement, Future, Contacts and Standards, a number of which are relevant to the goals of scientific PR and associated with the main elements of the concept of trust portfolio management. The selective character of verbalization by means of collocations of separate elements of concepts and the structure of the above semantic fields significant for this type of discourse is pointed out; that can be explained by the values of associations. The presence of specific features in the use of collocations verbalizing certain concepts or elements of semantic fields in the discourse of chemical and biotechnological associations; in particular, the role of the concept of Future in the discourse of chemical associations is emphasized, as well as the role of elements of the semantic field Improvement in the discourse of biotechnological associations. The use of collocations with the component Standards is characteristic of the texts of all analyzed sites of scientific and professional associations. The discourse of the sites of several associations demonstrates the use of a number of collocations verbalizing elements of the thematic fields Exchange of opinions and Exchange of information. The results of the study can find practical application in the course of lexicology, pragmalinguistics, professional translation, linguocultural studies, and theory of intercultural communication.
