Linear transformer accelerator for the excimer laser

Abstract: A high-current accelerator for pumping of the 200-L excimer laser is developed, providing electron energy of 550 keV, a diode current of 320 kA, and an e-beam current of 250 kA. The high-voltage part of the accelerator consists of two linear transformers with a stored energy of 98 kJ. To reduce the influence of the self-magnetic field on e-beam formation, the vacuum diode is divided into six separate magnetically isolated diodes.

“…The widespread sectioning version is the installa tion in a diode of return current conductors (RCCs) in the form of plates, which magnetically screen parts of the diode one from another [2]. The drawback of the sectioning is the need to ensure significant inter electrode gaps between cathodes and grounded hous ings of the accelerators or RCC plates, organizing the power supply to the cathodes of magnetically screened diodes, leading to significant changes in the design, and an increase in the diode size.…”
