Linear polythioesters. XIII.. Products of polycondensation of isomeric di(mercaptomethyl)–dimethylbenzenes with adipoyl and sebacoyl chlorides

Abstract: SynopsisThe synthesis of a new aliphatic-aromatic polythioesters obtained by polycondensation of 4,5-di(mercaptomethy1)-1,2-dimethylbenzene,4,6-di(mercaptomethyl)-1,3-dimethylbenzene and 2,5-di(mercaptomethy1)-1,4-dimethylbenzene with adipoyl and sebacoyl chloride is described. To define the optimal condition of the process, the polythioester from 2,5-di(mercaptomethy1)-1,4-dimethylbenzene and sebacoyl chloride was chosen as a model system and obtained by interfacial polycondensation as well as by low-and high… Show more

“…While polyurethanes are placed the sixth of the most used plastics in the world ranking, its thiol counterparts, which contains the particular structure units depicted in Scheme , are relatively poor investigated. In fact, polythiourethanes (polythiocarbamates) are materials with high potential in different modern applications (e.g., lenses, optical fibers, advanced coatings, and medical technology) owing to their enhanced refractive index, adhesive strength, biocompatibility, and hardness combined with extensible and flexible characteristics. Their strong hydrogen bonding is another vital property that induces excellent mechanical properties to the resulting materials thereof.…”

“…Gradual hydrolysis of the chloroformate endgroups produced more and more chains of structure 42, and finally all reaction products are cycles, but high averagemolecular-weight cyclic polycarbonates were detected up to masses of 55 000 Da. In this context, the work of Podkoscielny et al [91][92][93] should be mentioned, which deals with syntheses of poly(thioester)s from aliphatic or aromatic dithiols and various dicarboxylic acid dichlorides [Equation (77)]. These authors also compared polycondensations in homogeneous organic solution with interfacial polycondensations.…”

“…The spectral pattern of 10 showed good accordance with that of 9. The 1 H-NMR spectra of 10 showed signals based on the a-methylene cial polycondensation 9 of dithiols with acid dichlorides. In this work, syntheses of polythioesters and b-methine protons corresponding to the thioether moiety at 2.86 and 5.89 ppm.…”
