Linear-Polarization-Insensitive Rectenna Design for Ground-to-Air Microwave Power Transmission

Abstract: This paper presents a linear-polarization-insensitive rectenna for the ground-to-air microwave power transmission (MPT). With an integration of a hybrid coupler and a dual-linearly-polarized (DLP) antenna, a linearly-polarized (LP) incident wave can be decomposed by the antenna polarization tilts into the horizontally-polarized (HP) and the vertically-polarized (VP) components, correspondingly, which are then distributed evenly through the hybrid coupler as the inputs of two successive lumped rectifiers. Thus,… Show more

“…The alignment of the radiation pattern and polarization during transmission depends on the antenna orientation, as illustrated in Figure 4 . By changing the position of and , mismatches occur and change the effective radiation zones where the signal arrives [ 33 , 34 ]. Misalignments that decrease strength can be mitigated by varying the orientation of the antennas and analyzing changes in the spectrogram of the received signal.…”

“…The parallel circuit has the advantage of increasing the voltage up to 80% compared with a single [20] configuration. In addition, integration with solar cells can also increase the power up to 25 times if only relying on electromagnetic sources [21]. In this case, the electromagnetic source is inferior, according to the source in the IoT device.…”

“…Current UAVs carry a relatively limited battery energy in order to reduce the weight, which greatly limits the flight time and distance. However, through wireless energy transmission, it is possible to charge the flying drones in real time, thus extending the flight time [6].…”

“…In the existing literature, some related studies have been conducted on improving the antenna radiation efficiency, to enhance the energy transmission efficiency. In [6], a linear-polarization-insensitive rectenna is proposed, which is suitable for ground-to-air wireless power transfer. The authors used a hybrid coupler to feed the dual-polarized aperture-coupled antenna, thus enabling the antenna to receive the horizontally polarized and vertically polarized components simultaneously.…”
