Lignan constituents from Chloranthus japonicus Sieb.

Abstract: A new coumarinolignan glucoside named yinxiancaoside C, along with five known benzofuran lignans, have been isolated from the whole plant of Chloranthus japonicus Sieb. The structures of compounds 1-6 were elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic methods including 1D-NMR, 2D-NMR, ESI-MS and HR-ESI-MS. Five known benzofuran lignans were firstly discovered in the Chloranthaceae. In addition, the cytotoxic activity of the isolated compounds against human hepatoma (Hepg-2), ovarian carcinoma (OV420), and breast ca… Show more

“…Compounds 3 and 4 were identified as neolignans (7S, 8R)-5-methoxydihydrodehydrodiconiferyl alcohol-4-O-b-D-glucopyranoside (Takara et al, 2003) and (7S, 8R)-urolignoside (Shen et al, 1998) respectively. These compounds are being described for the first time in the genus Hedyosmum although they have also been found in other Chloranthaceae species such as Chloranthus japonicus (Kuang et al, 2009) and Sarcandra glabra (Wu et al, 2012). Compounds 2-4 were identified through MS and NMR data comparing to those reported in the literature.…”

“…Chloranthus japonicus Sieb ("yin‐xian‐cao" in Chinese) has been long used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of bone fractures, trauma, rheumatism, and cough . The previous phytochemical investigations on this plant have resulted in the isolation of a number of sesquiterpenoid dimers . Some of them were reported to show multibiological activities, such as antifungal, potent and selective tumor growth‐inhibitory, inhibition of cell adhesion molecule expression, and of tyrosinase …”

“…[3][4][5] The previous phytochemical investigations on this plant have resulted in the isolation of a number of sesquiterpenoid dimers. [6][7][8][9] Some of them were reported to show multibiological activities, such as antifungal, potent and selective tumor growth-inhibitory, inhibition of cell adhesion molecule expression, and of tyrosinase. [10][11][12] As part of our ongoing search for new bioactive natural products from the traditional Chinese herbal medicines in the Qinba Mountains, [13][14][15][16][17] a chemical study of the whole plant of C. japonicus was carried out, leading to the discovery of a new sesquiterpenoid dimer, named multistalide C (1), together with two known compounds, shizukaols C and D (2 and 3) (Chart 1).…”

“… Chloranthus japonicus (Chloranthaceae) is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of traumatic injuries, rheumatic arthralgia, bone fractures, pulmonary tuberculosis, and neurasthenia [28,29]. The main chemical components of this plant are sesquiterpenoid dimers and trimers [3032]. Lindenane sesquiterpenoids and disesquiterpenoids are chemotaxonomic characteristics of Chloranthus species.…”
