Light resonances in K0SK±π∓ and ηπ+π− final states in γγ collisions at LEP

Abstract: The e + e − → e + e − K 0 S K ± π ∓ and e + e − → e + e − ηπ + π − final states are studied with the L3 detector at LEP using data collected at centre-of-mass energies from 183 GeV up to 202 GeV. The mass spectrum of the K 0 S K ± π ∓ final state shows an enhancement around 1470 MeV, which is identified with the pseudoscalar meson η(1440). This state is observed in γ γ collisions for the first time and its two-photon width is measured to be Γ γ γ (η( 1440)) × BR(η(1440) → K Kπ) = 212 ± 50 (stat.) ± 23 (sys.) e… Show more

“…The TPC/Two-Gamma and Mark II Collaborations observed the axial vector meson (J PC = 1 ++ ) f 1 (1285) in single-tag events [2,3]. We previously reported an indication of the formation of f 1 (1285) in untagged events at LEP [4]. The f 1 (1285) decay into ηππ is dominated by the two-body decay f 1 (1285) → a 0 (980)π [5].…”

“…But then, η(1295) should also be produced, but it is not ! There is also no evidence for η(1295) from γγ fusion at LEP, nor from a study of γγ → K 0 s K ± π ∓ , but η(1440) is seen [3]. The η(1440) coupling to photons is much stronger than that of η(1295): the assumption that the η(1295) is a (uū + dd) radial excitation must be wrong !…”

“…The η(1475) could be the first radial excitation of η ′ (958). The L3 measurements of the KKπ and ηπ + π − decays in photon-photon fusion suggest that the η(1405) has a large gluonic content [15]. However, CLEO with a five times larger data sample did not confirm the L3 results, but their upper limits are still consistent with the glueball and the radial excitation hypotheses for the η(1405) and η(1475) [16].…”
