Hadron Spectroscopy Without Constituent Glue

Abstract: Glueballs and hybrids are predicted to exist but searches for them have failed to provide conclusive evidence. One-gluon exchange is not an important part of strong interactions in this energy regime. Instead, quarks seem to interact indirectly, via changes of the QCD vacuum. Strong interactions seem to be governed by instanton-induced interactions; the chiral soliton model gives a more suitable interpretation of the Θ + (1540) than models based on the dynamics of four quarks and one antiquark.

“…coupling, is therefore the natural choice. This assignment is further confirmed by the fact that its width also matches the expected width for the radially excited ss state [12,96,99], although the lack of observation in K − p can cast some doubts on this hypothesis [95].…”

“…Another possible interpretation of the η(1440) structure in terms of one resonance has been proposed in [95]. A node in the η(1440) matrix element could explain the presence of two peaks, at different masses for the a 0 (980)π and the K * K + c.c.…”

“…This result is consistent with the flux-tube interpretation of QCD[150] where soft gluons interact so strongly that they are sublimated into a color confinement potential for quarks. The absence of constituent glue in hadronic physics has been invoked also in Ref [151],. where the role of the confining potential is attributed to an instanton induced interaction 31.…”
