Light-Emitting Seal Using Self-Aligned Organic Light-Emitting Structure

Abstract: A light-emitting seal using a self-aligned organic light-emitting diode (OLED) and a laminate process is proposed and demonstrated. This device has a self-aligned ink-jet-printed structure where an insulating material is dissolved in a solvent, and a mixture of organic materials is formed at the same position as that of the ink-jet-printed region. A cathode electrode is laminated onto the above ink-jet-printed structure. The merits of the device are its simple fabrication without the need for photolithography … Show more

“…The emitting material solution was 1.2 wt % anisole with a polyfluorenebased polymer (PFO). 17) The descriptions of the lamination apparatus (Nanonics NanoimPro) are as follows: the lamination active area is 100 Â 100 mm 2 , the ultimate vacuum is 20 Torr, the maxium pressure of lamination is 50 kN, and the maximum temperature of lamination is 300 C. In the next process, a cathode substrate was inserted between two glass substrates and was then joined. The lamination pressure was estimated to be 10 MPa, and the applied heating tempreture was 150 C in air.…”

“…1) These devices are fabricated by various patterning methods using organic materials, such as mask evaporation, screen printing, 2) stamping, 3) masked dye diffusion, 4) ink-jet printing (IJP), [5][6][7][8][9][10][11] microgravure printing, 12) spraying, 13) ink brushing, 14) and lamination. [15][16][17] One of the interesting topics is the fabrication of transparent OLEDs (TOLEDs) that emit from two sides, and their type of matrix panel has been demonstrated. 18,19) However, an image of such display devices can show a flip horizontal shape and the result is limited to few applications.…”
