Ligand substitution reaction on a platinum(ii) complex with bio-relevant thiols: kinetics, mechanism and bioactivity in aqueous medium

Abstract: Kinetics of the interaction between [Pt(pic)(H2O)2](ClO4)2and selected thiols has been studied in aqueous medium as a function of [complex], [thiol], pH and temperature at constant ionic strength.

“…S12). Literature reports [61][62][63][64][65][66] indicate that more negative (large) values of DS -is characteristic of an associative substitution mechanism for Pd II and Pt II complexes [67]. The enthalpy of activation (DH -) for both the steps were in fair agreement with those found for related Pd II complexes with subsequent diimine ligands.…”

“…Moreover, Pt-sulfur adduct can act as a drug reservoir, which is also influenced by the architecture of planned Pt(II) complexes with a suitable carrier ligand. We have already reported a few Pt(II) complexes with σ-donor and π-acceptor carrier ligands, [15][16][17] which exhibit a significant anticancer activity. Herein, we report the detailed synthesis of Pt(II) complexes incorporating TEEDA as a carrier ligand, having different extend of σ-donor capability of 2 and 3 amines of ligand and their bioactivity.…”

“…Entropies of activations are all highly negative, which support that all steps follow associative mechanisms. The d 8 Au(III) complexes are expected to show similar behavior as do square planar Pt(II) complexes .…”
