Lifestyle Coverage

Abstract

Lifestyle coverage has been a part of journalism for some considerable time, but societal developments since the mid‐twentieth century have given it increased visibility and relevance, both for the journalism industry and journalism scholarship. Following a discussion of definitional aspects of lifestyle journalism, this entry provides a historical overview of its development and surveys the existing literature along four key themes: representations and identity formation; political relevance; consumerism and economic influences; and digital developments. Finally, avenues for future studies are outlined.
