Life Cycle of Eimeria krijgsmanni-Like Coccidium in the Mouse (Mus musculus)

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Life cycle of Eimeria krijgsmanni-like coccidium isolated from the feces of naturally infected mice purchased from commercial sources was examined. The parasite was purified by single oocyst isolation and maintained by passage in the mice before experiments. The sporulated oocysts were ovoid or ellipsoid, measuring 19.3 × 14.8 μm on average. One or two small polar granules were present. Micropyle and oocyst residuum were absent. Sporocysts were ellipsoid, measuring 11.6 × 7.2 μm on average with a sma… Show more

“…krijgsmanni was obtained from the Division of Tropical Diseases and Parasitology, Department of Infectious Diseases, Kyorin University School of Medicine, and maintained by routine passage through ICR mice in the Laboratory of Parasitology, Joint Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kagoshima University (Matsui et al 2006). Oocysts were collected from the feces of infected mice, allowed to sporulate in 2% potassium dichromate solution at 25°C for 5 days, and stored at 4°C until use.…”

“…However, these studies are limited to wellknown Eimeria species such as Eimeria papillata or E. falciformis. Recently, Matsui et al (2006) identified a species isolated from the feces of naturally infected mice as E. krijgsmanni morphologically and biologically. Additionally, our another research showed differences of the drug sensitivity from other mouse Eimeria spp.…”
