“…Furthermore, elevated levels of IL-17A have been detected in serum [6][7][8] saliva [8,9] and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) [8,10,11] of periodontitis patients. Serum and GCF levels of IL-17A have also been demonstrated to correlate with clinical attachment loss in patients with chronic periodontitis [7,8,11] and aggressive periodontitis [7].…”

“…La concentración de IL-17 en el FGC fue significativamente mayor en los sitios activos que en los sitios inactivos esto concuerda con los estudios de Vernal et al (17) que muestran que la concentración de IL-17 presente en el FGC de pacientes con periodontitis cróni-ca es significativamente mayor que en individuos sanos. Se ha demostrado que las células Th17 antagonizan con las células T reguladoras(Treg) por lo que amplifican la respuesta proinflamatoria y promueven la autoinmunidad.…”

“…Chronic periodontitis sites have shown increased levels of IL-17 in comparison with healthy periodontal tissues [18][19][20][21][22][23] and periodontal pathogens can stimulate the production of IL-17 from T-cells 19 . In this study, the concentration of the cytokine IL-17 was higher in patients with poorly controlled diabetes, confirming the Table 1.…”

“…These are powerful proinflammatory cells that produce interleukin IL-17 and stimulate fibroblasts, endothelial cells, macrophages and epithelial cells to produce multiple pro-inflammatory mediators, including IL-1, IL-6, tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α and chemokines, resulting in the induction of inflammation 10 . High levels of IL-17 have been detected in biopsies of patients with chronic periodontitis 18 and the presence of Porphyromonas gingivalis was capable of stimulating T lymphocytes to produce IL-17 19 . Although the involvement of IL-17 in periodontal disease has been shown 18 , its role in the induction or progression of this disease is still unclear.…”
