The present values are lesser than values reported for marine organisms from Kalpakkam coast (1302.3 mSv y À1 , Kannan, 2005); Gulf of Mannar (2287.9 mSv y À1 , Masilamani, 2001); France (78e129 mSv y À1 , Connan et al, 2007); Baltic Sea (700 mSv y À1 , Nielson et al, 1999); Italy (50e200 mSv y À1 , Jia et al, 2003); Slovenia (32.8 mSv y À1 , Strok and Smodi s, 2011) and higher than reported from Syria (0.75 mSv y À1 , Al-Masri et al, 2000); the UK (1.86 mSv y À1 , Smith-Briggs and Bradley, 1984) and comparable to values reported from Mumbai (19.4 mSv y À1 , Mishra et al, 2009); Irish Sea (19 mSv y À1 , Pollard et al, 1998) and from Poland (18.6 mSv y À1 , Pietrzak-Flis et al, 1997). Aarkrog et al (1997) reported a global range of 5.1 and 9.1 mSv y -1 and 160 mSv y -1 for critical group.…”

“…After the digestion procedure, ascorbic acid was added to samples to reduce iron ions (II and III) and eliminate interference from the silver disc during the deposition process [25]. The final solution was heated to 70-80°C and the 210 Po was spontaneously deposited on a rotating silver disc for a duration of 4 h [26]. Activity concentrations of 210 Po in the samples were measured using silicon surface-barrier detectors connected to the multi-channel analyzer of an ORTEC alpha spectrometer.…”
