Level of Concordance of Pre-, Intra-, and Postoperative Staging in Cervical Cancers (TREYA Study)

Abstract: Concomitant radiochemotherapy is the therapeutic standard for locally advanced (Ib2 to IVa stage FIGO) cervical cancer. In the absence of a radiotherapy in many of our Sub-Saharan African countries, surgical resection is the only therapeutic method available in hopes of achieving a definite cure. However, criteria for curative surgery are not always met due to preoperative understaging of most of our patients. In addition to socioeconomic factors, the causes for understaging are numerous. These include the lac… Show more

“…The results of the present study implied that active adjuvant therapy can help improve the prognosis of patients with LACC. Moreover, laparoscopic para-aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy provides accurate information about the lymph node status and allows the development of individualized treatment plans for LACC patients, thereby avoiding false-negative (FN) and false-positive (FP) imaging results ( 46 ).…”

“…The standard treatment recommended in the United States and Canada is concurrent radiotherapy, while countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin America use neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery as first-line treatment [9]. LACC patients are difficult to cure and have a poor prognosis due to the large localized extent of the tumor and the high risk factors [10]. For LACC with tumor diameter ≥ 4 cm, it is not easily controlled by surgical treatment alone and is prone to distant metastases and lymph node metastases after surgery [11].…”
