Abstract:This article intends to challenge the dominant assumptions that undermine the potential application of peacebuilding frameworks beyond formal post-war contexts. It analyses the gangs' truce that recently took place in El Salvador as a privileged laboratory to rethink hegemonic understandings and practices of peacebuilding by specifically addressing the importance of overcoming dichotomised categories such 'war and peace' , 'criminal and political' , and 'success and failure' . It is claimed that while the truce fostered a discourse pointing towards an ongoing peace process and enlarged the public debate on the failings of post-war policies and on the structural roots of violence, it was also decisively undermined by the inability to surmount the dichotomy that juxtaposes the criminal and the political domains. It is argued that a peacebuilding framework, inspired by a set of critical perspectives on war and peace and on the nature of 'the political' , may thus be of crucial importance for the future of policies aimed at curbing violence in El Salvador and elsewhere.

La experiencia de los cascos azules argentinos en HaitíExplain the efficacy of a peace operation, searching recognition as militaries. The experience of argentinean peacekeepers in Haití ¿Cómo narran los militares argentinos la eficacia de la operación de paz en Haití, la operación militar más importante de sus carreras profesionales? ¿De qué modo el escenario político doméstico intervino en la construcción del ambiente operacional en el que intervinieron? Por qué la operación es considerada militar cuando su éxito es atribuido a un sin número de tareas cívicas de aproximación a la población haitiana? Nos proponemos dar respuesta a estas preguntas mostrando, desde una perspectiva antropológica, como los militares argentinos buscaron a través de la operación, restaurar el reconocimiento de la sociedad argentina y con ello la propia revalorización de sí mismos como profesionales eficaces. El énfasis de sus narrativas en la empatía y sensibilidad hacia la población produjo en las primeras contingentes tensiones, superposiciones y mezclas, entre el militar guerrero y el militar humanizado. Las ambigüedades y el modo en que lidiaron con ellas para restituir su reconocimiento como militares imponiendo la paz, es una cuestión central de este trabajo. Resumen Al analizar la construcción del ambiente operacional mostraremos cómo una operación considerada militar se atribuye su éxito a una variedad de tareas cívicas de aproximación a la población local y de qué manera produjo ambigüedades en la condición de militares, guerreros y humanizados. Indagamos esta cuestión en entrevistas etnográficas realizadas a ex cascos azules para introducirnos en el debate sobre: el rol de las Fuerzas Armadas argentinas en el proceso de la Posguerra Fría; la referencia al escenario nacional en la construcción de los ambientes operacionales en misiones de paz extraterritoriales; y la condición cambiante de los militares en procesos de pacificación.Palabras Claves: Militares; eficacia; reconocimiento; operaciones de paz.
