À partir des résultats d’une recherche-action menée entre 2011 et 2013, ayant pour projet et pour titre de « re-connaître collectivement la richesse des voyages scolaires », nous montrerons comment cette pratique très ancienne et relativement systématisée dans les établissements scolaires, sans toutefois être très conceptualisée, ni observée cliniquement, est un pôle important d’innovation pédagogique ainsi qu’un moment de subjectivation, via la rencontre médiatisée de soi et de l’autre. Entre rite et rituel, le voyage sera présenté comme un événement institutionnel, organisationnel, groupal et subjectif qui renouvelle pour l’ensemble des sujets qu’il implique la question du rapport au Savoir et aux savoirs, de l’autre et des autres. À l’heure où la mobilité sous toutes ses acceptions et dans les différents registres de la vie psychique (intra-subjective, intersubjective et trans-subjective) devient un enjeu majeur pour les jeunes générations et par conséquent pour ceux qui les accompagnent, cette première expérience du voyage entre pairs est l’occasion d’un choc de Culture en même temps qu’un choc des cultures. Deux groupes d’adolescents voyageurs, l’un vers le Benin, l’autre vers Grenade, en ce qu’ils ont été profondément transformés par cette expérience, nous permettront de montrer l’écart et la tension entre le « narcissisme des petites différences » (Freud, 1929) qui mobilisait les adolescents avant leur départ et la rencontre avec l’altérité qu’ils n’ont cessé de décrire pour mieux la métaboliser après leur retour.
