Les collemboles Neanurinae de l'Himalaya; III - Genre Nepalimeria

Abstract: 2. The relationship between the 6th and 8th ribs: In O. chambrieri the 8th ribs are inserted at the basis of the dorsal rib and are in contact with the 8th ribs, excepting at their distal end. In O. bonsi, the 8th ribs are inserted on the dorsal rib and are completely separated from the 6th ribs. In O. touzeti and O. vaucheri, the 8th ribs are inserted on the dorsal rib and are in contact with the 6th ribs only in their median part.

“…In the present contribution, three new species of Lobellini are reported, from one of the six tribes established within the subfamily (Cassagnau 1989). This large tribe currently encompasses more than 130 species and 15 genera, distributed primarily in the Oriental and the Australian regions (Bellinger et al 2017).…”

“…This large tribe currently encompasses more than 130 species and 15 genera, distributed primarily in the Oriental and the Australian regions (Bellinger et al 2017). The Lobellini are defined by the following combination of features: the presence of 3+3 eyes or the ocelli absent, four labral chaetae positioned in two rows, the absence of a blue hypodermic pigment on the body, the separateness of tubercles An and Fr on the head, and a bilobate last abdomen (Cassagnau 1983, 1989, Deharveng 1983). Two new species, presented in this paper, belong to the genus Lobellina Yosii, 1956, while the third one to Yuukianura Yosii, 1955.…”

Seven species (together with the new one) have been found in the mountains above 3000 m a. s. l.: P. ganesh Cassagnau, 1991, P. indrabahadouri Cassagnau, 1991, P. setikholensis Cassagnau, 1991, P. spectabilis Cassagnau, 1982, P. khumbica Yosii, 1971, P. africana Cassagnau, 1996 (Kenya) and P. bilinskii sp. nov. “…It is also one of the most recognizable ones within Collembola as its members possess very characteristic cuticular tubercles on the dorsal side of the body and completely lack the furca, the organ typical for most described springtails. Regarding the taxonomy of Neanurinae, all species are classified into six established tribes (Cassagnau 1989). Among them, Neanurini is the second largest, after Paleonurini, with over 170 species belonging to 23 genera (Cassagnau 1989, Hopkin 1997, Deharveng and Bedos 2000, Deharveng et al 2007, Smolis 2007, 2011, Mayvan et al 2015).…”

The number of eyes, the shape of mandibles, as well as the number and arrangement of tubercles on the body are typically used to separate the genera within the tribe.…”
