Aims: The Tanoe-Ehy swamp forest (TESF) is a freshwater swampy area characterized by seasonal variation of environmental parameters and fish diversity. So, the aim of this study was to analyze seasonal variations of growth parameters and condition factors of the three abundant species. Methodology: Specimens were collected by using gill nets and fyke nets, measured and weighed. Length-weight relationship (LWR), Fulton’s condition (KF) and relative condition (KR) factors were analyzed from Standard Length (SL) and body weight (BW). Results: The Standard Length of Clarias buettikoferi, Thysochromis ansorgii and Parachana obscura varied between 9.50 and 29.30 cm, 4.60 and 11.50 cm, 10.70 and 29.30 cm, respectively. The growth type of population was allometric negative for C. buettikoferi and P. obscura and isometric for T. ansorgii. In terms of seasonal variation, C. buettikoferi females and P. obscura specimens exhibited isometric growth in dry seasons (DS) against a negative allometric growth in flooded seasons (FS). In contrast, female and combined sex specimens of T. ansorgii showed positive allometric growth in DS and isometric growth type in FS. KR varied between 0.76 and 2.02 and was significantly higher in FS than in DS, indicating a state of well-being during flooded seasons in the 3 species. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between length with weight and both condition factor for the three species. This study provided the first data about fish body measurements in the TESF and concluded that LWRs and condition factors of the three fish species were strongly influenced by seasonal variations in hydrological conditions.

The Bombay duck (Harpodon nehereus), harpiosquillid mantis shrimp (Harpiosquilla raphidea), and giant mud crab (Scylla serrata) are among the commercially important fishery resources in Tarakan Island, North Kalimantan, Indonesia. This requires sustainable fisheries management to be in place since these resources have now become the main targets of fishing industry. However, sustainable fisheries management of these species is difficult because less is known about the species particularly its condition, fatness, and well-being. Hence, the current study was conducted to analyze the morphometric characteristics in order to deduce fishing pressure of the fish species in Tarakan waters. Data collection was achieved through field between September 2017 and April 2018. Morphometric characteristics (length, weight, width, and thickness) were collected throughout the sampling period. The length-weight relationship and condition factor were then estimated using the morphometric measurements. The data were then statistically analyzed either or combination of t-test, Chi-square, and the Mann-Whitney tests. The study revealed that all the three fish species (H. nehereus, Ha. raphidea, and S. serrata) populations in Tarakan waters were dominated by male individuals (M:F ratio; 1:0.81; 1:0.63; and 1:0.66, respectively). The length-weight analysis showed all fish were found to be smaller in size and exhibited negative allometric growth patterns. The analysis of condition factor also showed that the fish were dominated by flat and very flat body shapes. The current study suggests that the fish species may encounter some kinds of ecological disturbances that selectively removed female fish and larger individuals from the populations. However, more studies are needed to accurately identify those factors so that plans to effectively address the root cause could be incorporated in the sustainable fishery management tools of the fish resources.

The Ebrié lagoon undergoes numerous disturbances of anthropic origin manifesting since these last decennis by a massive and sudden mortality of the ichthyological populations. In order to measure the impact of these disturbances, length-weight relationship was estimated for the main ichthyologic species in the lagoon Ebrié. The specimens were collected from 457 identification, each sample was weighed to the gram and measured to average millimeter. For this study, 15 species belonging to 11 families were selected because of their presence during the sample period. The length-weight regressions were significant with a coefficient of determination (r²) ranging from 0.717 (Ethmalosa fimbriata) to 0.923 (Gerres eucinostomus). The allometry coefficient b is ranged from 2.36 for Tylochromis jentinki to 3.12 for Liza falcipinnis. The majority of the regression coefficient of the captured species (66.67%) was lower than 3. The size frequency distribution showed that 92% of the captured species are small in size with a minimum size of 30 mm for Gerres nigri and a maximum of 370 mm for Chrysichthys spp.
