“…This research is important to sports industry operations, as it touches upon credibility and integrity issues that are often the focus of the media (Abbott, 2010), the recent sports gambling litigation in New Jersey (Rodenberg & Kaburakis, 2013), and the efficiency of betting markets (Larson, Price, & Wolfers, 2008). Bias by workplace evaluators, even bias of the implicit nature evidenced here, can cause problematic perceptions (Adande, 2008; Stein, 2008) and important integrity issues central to the evaluation of firm personnel.…”

European policymakers have concentrated on this form of corruption (European Commission, 2007, Council of Europe, 2014, European Parliament, 2011, European Parliament, 2012.…”

“…The oldest, and one of the most commonly enforced, federal laws regulating sports betting in the U.S. is the Wire Act of 1961. The law cannot be used to prosecute individual bettors, only bookmakers, and recent legal interpretations have limited the law to apply only to sports betting, and not to other forms of gambling (Rodenberg and Kaburakis, 2013). This law prohibits the transmission of wagers, or information assisting in the placing of wagers, over communication wires like telephone and telegraph lines and punishes violators with fines and imprisonment.…”

“…This law was added as a last minute amendment to a law regulating the ownership and operation of U.S. ports, the Security and Accountability for Every Port (SAFE Port) act without any legislative debate. Like the Wire Act of 1961, UIGEA does not apply to individual bettors; the law requires financial service providers like credit card companies to take measures to ensure that no monetary transactions between book makers and bettors can take place (Rodenberg and Kaburakis, 2013).…”
