Cyclotella ocellata is also found to be favoured by high nitrogen concentration in shallower, mesotrophic Lake Prespa, the sister lake of Lake Ohrid (Kocev et al, 2010). Cyclotella minuscula is very small (3-5 µm diameter), and probably has a similar ecological niche as other small-celled Cyclotella sensu lato species (Saros and Anderson, 2015), which have low nutrient and light requirements, high growth rates and low sinking rates, owing to their high ratio of surface area to volume (Winder et al, 2009;Finkel et al, 2009).…”
