Lead induced alterations in rabbit spermatozoa motility and morphology in vitro

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The aim of this in vitro study was to determine the effect of lead chloride (PbCl 2 ) on rabbit spermatozoa motility and morphology. Lead concentrations in the medium ranged between 0.45 and 11.17 μg/ml; incubation time was 240 min (analyzed immediately after Pb addition followed by 30, 60, 120, 180, and 240 min), and temperatures of the culture environment were 22°C (laboratory), 4°C (refrigerator), and 37°C (incubator). Results were compared with a control group without Pb addition. After 30 min of … Show more

“…The samples were placed into the Makler counting chamber (depth 10 μm, 37 °C; Sefi Medical Instruments, Haifa, Israel) and immediately assessed [15] . Thousand cells were evaluated in each sample for the following characteristics: motility (percentage of cells moving faster than 5 μm/s; %), progressive motility (percentage of cells moving faster than 20 μm/s; %), curvilinear velocity (VCL, μm/s), amplitude of lateral head displacement (ALH, μm) and beat cross frequency (BCF, Hz) [15] , [16] , [17] , [18] .…”

“…The semen samples were collected from rabbit males twice a week with a pre-heated artificial vagina during two months. The semen was transported within 10 min to the laboratory in a water bath at 37 °C as described previously (Krockova et al 2016).…”
