Le mariage clandestin et la rupture du mariage dans la nouvelle de Violente et Didaco, chez Bandello et Boaistuau

Abstract

With the story of Violente and Didaco, the Italian Matteo Bandello (I, 42) and the French Pierre Boaistuau (5 th tragic story) narrate each on his side the story of a double wedding. First, the knight Didaco secretly marries Violente and a year later he marries with great pomp a woman of his social condition. Then, he suffers the terrible vengeance of Violente. Both storytellers do not see the same way the first wife's behaviour : Bandello thinks that she cares for her social role ; Boaistuau that she seeks to defend the rights of her marriage. This difference reveals two conceptions of marriage, that of Bandello refers to the vision of Roman law, that of Boaistuau to canon law. Résumé : L'Italien Matteo Bandello (I, 42) et le Français Pierre Boaistuau (5 e histoire tragique) relatent tous deux, avec l'histoire de Violente et de Didaco, le récit d'un double mariage. Le chevalier Didaco épouse d'abord secrètement Violente, et un an plus tard, il se marie en grandes pompes avec une femme de sa condition. Il subit alors la terrible vengeance de Violente. Les deux conteurs ne considèrent pas de la même façon la première épouse : soucieuse d'ambition sociale pour Bandello, elle cherche, aux yeux de Boaistuau, à défendre les droits de son union et de son amour pour Didaco. Cette différence révèle deux conceptions du mariage : celle de Bandello renvoie à la vision du dr oit romain, celle de Boaistuau au droit canonique.
