Abstract

Teaching aimed at the development of mathematical problem solving skills requires an examination of classroom interactions to address the challenges of this approach. We are interested in the role of students' social skills in the development of math problem solving competency. Two subgroups of four 10-year-old students were given two problems to solve. The analysis of their interactions and productions demonstrates that organizational skills, a component of social skills, develop in close connection with the productions of members of both groups.
