This paper describes an exploratory, multisite case study of the production of textual content for state agency Web sites. The qualitative field study explored internal agency Web staff characterizations of textual Web content and staff perceptions of factors affecting the production of content. Study results suggest that staff characterize content in terms of its format, its style age, its rate of change, its degree of change, its owner, and the degree to which it is sensitive. Staff described nine factors affecting content production including information intensity, public education mission, public inquiry burden, top-down directives, existing maintenance burden, review and approval process, resources, management interest and goals, and support from other program staff. A better understanding of how internal agency staff perceive and treat content is important because staff play a large role in determining what content is produced and what characteristics the content contains. The inclusion or exclusion of certain characteristics in content has important implications for information usability, costs, citizen participation in agency policymaking, government transparency, and public trust in government.

The Action Plan for Official Languages launched in 2003 intends to revitalize the country's linguistic duality. Among the priority areas, health is the focus in order to ensure the training of health professionals to serve official language minority communities and to network the main actors concerned about the organization of services in the minority language. The aim of this paper is to report representations of Francophones in minority with respect to the future of health services in French. The study is based on a participatory methodology: concept mapping to identify the conceptual universe of a given problem.

Les technologies contemporaines liées au développement de l’Internet et du cyberespace ont transformé de façon significative la sphère socioculturelle au plan mondial et local et l’accès aux savoirs et aux savoir-faire, une problématique qui interpelle l’anthropologie, qui fait de la transmission et de ses formes l’un des axes essentiels de son projet scientifique. Les travaux menés sur Internet suscitent deux grands types de réactions. Le premier type célèbre cette innovation comme ouvrant une ère nouvelle en universalisant le savoir humain auquel tous bientôt pourront accéder, alors que le second remet en question les prétentions révolutionnaires attribuées à Internet en montrant les limites de ces outils. Sur un plan plus ethnographique, les études menées, particulièrement sur les forums de discussion, mettent en évidence la diversité des savoirs et savoir-faire transmis (experts, populaires et expérientiels) et leur rôle dans l’accès à des informations et à des compétences techniques. La contribution pédagogique d’Internet à l’anthropologie est aussi soulignée, tout comme les limites de l’intégration de l’étude de ces médias dans la formation théorique et méthodologique des étudiants universitaires dans cette discipline.
