LCFIPlus: A framework for jet analysis in linear collider studies

Abstract: We report on the progress in flavor identification tools developed for a future e + e − linear collider such as the International Linear Collider (ILC) and Compact Linear Collider (CLIC). Building on the work carried out by the LCFIVertex collaboration, we employ new strategies in vertex finding and jet finding, and introduce new discriminating variables for jet flavor identification. We present the performance of the new algorithms in the conditions simulated using a detector concept designed for the ILC. The… Show more

“…Let us, e.g., assume the same specifications for b tagging as before, but a degraded c tagging efficiency of only 60 %. Even though the mis-tag rates will then decrease accordingly (subject to the LCFIPlus performance [36]), redoing the above calculation shows a further enhancement of thebb background, r bb = 13.5, with an expected worsened significance z ≈ √ S/3.9. Note that the above estimates were obtained for a given fixed branching ratio B(h → bj) = 0.73 %.…”

“…We assume that the b-tagging efficiency, the rates of misidentifying the c-jet and the light-quark jet as a b-jet are 0.8, 0.08 and 0.01, respectively [33]. To reconstruct the W and H bosons, we require that the invariant mass of the light jet pair and the b-jet pair satisfies [34] 3 It should be noted that although the energy of an electron can be measured in the electromagnetic calorimeter, the measurement is not statistically independent of the tracking determination of its momentum so that these two measurements cannot be combined [30].…”
