“…The Jahn-Teller distorted copper coordination is completed by two trans water molecules ( Table 1). The Cu-N and Cu-O bond lengths in (I) are very similar to the equivalent values observed for the same complex cation in its bis(naphthalene-2-sulfonate) (Sharma et al, 2005) and bis(4-fluorobenzoate) (Liu et al, 2004) salts.…”

“…On the other hand, the R 2 1 (6) ring motifs are reported for [Cu(en) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]X 2 complexes, [where X = naphthalene-2-sulfonate (Sharma et al, 2005) and X = 2,6-dimethoxynicotinate (Jašková et al, 2007) (Fig. 3).…”

“…For complex salt 1 the strong absorption around 548 nm is observed due to the d-d transition typical for octahedral copper(II) complex of the type [trans-Cu(en) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] 2+ . In our earlier studies on copper(II) complexes with sulphonates [16], p-nitrobenzoate [17], ibuprofenate, o-methoxybenzoate and p-ethoxybenzoate [18] the k max values around 540 nm were observed when [trans-Cu(en) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ](carboxylate) 2 type complexes were formed. Therefore the ionic form, [trans-Cu (en) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ](L 1 ) 2 Á 2H 2 O of compound 1 is indicated and neutral form, [Cu(en) 2 (L 1 ) 2 ] Á 2H 2 O is ruled out.…”
