Layered Double Hydroxides with the Composition Mn/Al-SO4-A (A = Li, Na, K; Mn:Al ca. 1:1) as Cation Exchangers

Abstract: Hydrated Mn/Al-SO 4 -A (A = Li, Na or K) layered double hydroxides with M 2+ :M 3+ molar ratio close to 1:1 were synthesized by co-precipitation with increasing pH. All phases presented solvated alkali metals and sulfate as intercalated species. In the exchange reactions, when sulfate solutions of alkali metals were used, sodium could be partially replaced by potassium, and the same was true for the potassium phase, where potassium could be partially replaced by Na and Li, without removing the intercalated sul… Show more

“…(00-058-0178), and illustrated characteristics diffraction peaks at 2θ = 9.90° and 19.874° corresponded to the diffraction planes (003), and (006) planes. The (006) peak marked the hydrotalcite-type and well-ordered crystalline materials, while the (003) peak indicated the basal of an interlayer anion in LDH materials [26]. The observed peaks of LDH were closely matched with the results of Balcomb et al [27].…”
