Laser wavelength measurement with a Fourier transform wavemeter

Abstract: We report results from spectral measurements in the optical and near infrared region performed with a Fourier transform wavemeter. Characteristics of a variety of lasers and the performance of the wavemeter have been studied. The group of cw lasers measured in this work is comprised of a 1550-nm multimode diode laser, an 820-nm single-mode diode laser, a 594.5 nm dye laser, and He-Ne lasers at wavelengths of 1523, 633, and 543 nm. The Fourier transform wavemeter is powerful in multimode laser investigations an… Show more

“…Precision frequency measurements [1][2][3] of a stabilized laser source are of great importance in the field of metrology [4] as well as atomic, molecular [5] and optical physics [6]. Here we show that weak values [7][8][9] in an optical deflection measurement experiment [10] can produce frequency shift resolutions down to 129 ± 7 kHz/ √ Hz with only 2 mW of continuous wave optical power.…”

“…There are many different types of sensors that have been developed to precisely measure the frequency of a laser [9][10][11][12][13][14]. This particular design is inspired by a previous experiment using free space optics [15], but is implemented in an integrated optics environment.…”

“…Some of them are based on interferometers, which count the spacing between the resulting interference fringes [1][2][3]. Others are based on the Fourier transform of an interference patter [4,5] or they use the distance between the diffraction orders generated by a diffractive element such as a diffraction grating [6] or a ruler [7]. Recently, a method to estimate the wavelength of a laser based on the measurement of the Airy disk generated by a circular aperture has also been proposed [8].…”
