Laser speckle techniques in quality evaluation of orange fruits

Abstract: This work presents a study of a new technology applied in quality tests of oranges. Evaluations were performed using a nondestructive and noninvasive method based on the interpretation of an optical phenomenon that occurs when the fruit is illuminated with coherent light, referred as biospeckle. The speckle patterns of laser light scattered in orange fruits have been measured through their quantification. For the quantification of the variation by biospeckle, the autocorrelation function and the modified occur… Show more

“…Non-invasive methods are used to classify agricultural products of different varieties, such as those presented by Rabelo et al (2005), Lorente et al (2012) and El Kalhed et al (2016). The optical technique known as biospeckle laser has been widely employed in studies on food quality (Rabal & Braga, 2008;Chargot et al, 2012;Retheesh et al, 2016).…”

“…In agriculture, the breakpoint can be attributed to applications of BSL in fruits (tomatoes), 1975 (Briers, 1975), followed by many other applications in fruits related to maturation stages (Xu;Joenathan;Khorana, 1995;Rabelo et al, 2005;Nirala, 2014;Nassif et al, 2014;Skic et al, 2016;Retheesh et al, 2016;Costa et al, 2017), or even using fruit to test processes and improve the BSL technique (Oulamara;Tribillon;Duvernoy, 1989;Kurenda et al, 2013;Nirala, 2013;Nirala, 2014a;Nirala, 2014b;Mulone et al, 2014;Kurenda et al, 2014;Arefi et al, 2016).…”

“…Ces ré-sultats ont montré que les attributs de qualité évoluent de façon significative au cours du stockage. D'autres études [3], quantifiant la variation du moment d'inertie issu de la matrice de suivi temporel (THSP) extraite des images de speckle, ont été effectuées sur des oranges. Les moments d'inertie mesurés, et montrant une dynamique de speckle qui diminue avec la baisse de qualité des fruits, ont été utilisés comme indicateurs de qualité et de sénescence 1 pour les fruits.…”
