Laser scanning tomography and stereophotogrammetry in three-dimensional optic disc analysis

Abstract: Laser scanning tomography (LST) and computed stereophotogrammetry (CSP) are sophisticated diagnostic tools for the three-dimensional analysis of optic nerve head topography. The two methods are based on different physical principles. To compare the information about the shape of the cup of an optic nerve head obtained by LST and CSP, we evaluated the volume profile (VP; i.e., the cross-sectional area of the cup from top to bottom) in 36 discs of 36 patients (20 control group discs C, 16 glaucoma discs G). The … Show more

“…The method used by this device has been described in detail. [38][39][40][41][42][43][44] In eligible eyes, after keratometric values were measured, one topographic image was obtained through a dilated pupil (by using tropicamide 1%, Alcon, Fort Worth, Texas, USA). This is in contrast to the standard protocol of 3 images recommended usually.…”

“…Heidelberg Retina Tomograph optic disc images (Burk et al 1990(Burk et al , 1993 have been acquired in a large portion of patients with a clinical diagnosis of glaucoma, suspected glaucoma, and ocular hypertension at our department. Thus, HRT images were available for 472 eyes of 302 patients.…”

“…29 There are several limitations to the use of planimetry for measuring disk size. It is a timeconsuming technique, and also depends upon the subjective judgment of the edge of the optic disk.…”
