Laser Fusion of Aluminum Powder Coated with Diamond Particles via Selective Laser Melting: Powder Preparation and Synthesis Description

Abstract: This work aims to study the possibility of obtaining Al–C composite from AlSi10MgCu aluminum matrix with the addition of 500 nm-sized diamond particles by selective laser melting (SLM) process. Al–C composite powder was prepared by mechanical mixing to form a uniform cover along the surface of aluminum particles. The diamond content in the resulting AlSi10MgCu-diamond composite powder was equal to 0.67 wt %. The selection of the optimal SLM parameters for the obtained composite material is presented. For mater… Show more

“…One of the most important features is that the generator is driven by a wind wheel, the speed mode of which depends on the wind speed and is unstable. For variable loads, it is better to use materials with high fracture toughness [8][9][10][15][16][17][18].…”

“…Turbine blades, transmission, rotary mechanism, mast structure should be made by special methods from innovative steel and composite materials [6][7][8][9], capable of withstanding significant loads with minimal consumption of the material itself. Processing and obtaining of such materials is implemented in various ways [10][11][12][13][14][15].…”

“…Currently, there are numerous experimental studies devoted to changing the mechanical properties of metallic and amorphous alloys under the influence of laser irradiation [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. Laser technologies for processing metals and alloys may differ significantly from traditional thermomechanical processing methods [ 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ].…”

“…In the case of a traditional metal alloy, the surface also has an increased density of defects, including nano- and microsize pores. They are also often defects in materials manufactured using laser additive technology [ 15 , 16 , 17 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 ].…”

“…could be highlighted as a promising direction for investigation. Core-shell-type particles, the modification of reinforcement for stronger adhesion/bonding, grain boundary and interparticle infiltration, and other approaches have shown impressive results, both for construction and functional materials [9,10]. Most previous investigations dealing with composite materials and core-shell particle creation used spherical particles of matrix metallic powder and coated them with different phases, such as ceramics, nano-fibers, and thin layers.…”
