Laser diode thermal desorption mass spectrometry for the analysis of quinolone antibiotic residues in aquacultured seafood

Abstract: A rapid method for quinolone analysis in fish muscle was developed using LDTD-MS/MS. The total analysis time was less than 30 s per sample; quinolone residues were detected below 10 ng/g and in most cases residue identity was confirmed. This represents the first application of LDTD to tissue extract analysis. Published 2012. This article is a US Government work and is in the public domain in the USA.

“…They discovered that the residence time in the APCI region which is controlled by the carrier gas flow rate had an influence on the signal intensity. Furthermore, maximal signal intensity at a carrier gas flow rate of 3 L min −1 was also observed from other groups optimizing the LDTD-APCI parameters indicating that the carrier gas flow rate is not compound dependent but rather a combination of physical factors which influence the ionization efficiency [13,14,18]. The optimal corona discharge current Fig.…”

“…The MS system was connected to a HTS PAL auto-sampler from CTC Analytics AG (Zwingen, Switzerland) and to an Agilent 1200 pump system (Wilmington, DE, USA). Chromatographic separation was performed at a flow rate of 400 μL min −1 on an Ascentis Express C 18 Table S1 in the Electronic Supplementary Material (ESM).…”

“…The MDL was 1.7, 2.6, 4.4 ng/g for FLU, OXO and NAL, respectively. This method was found to meet many of the drug residue analysis requirements in shrimp tissue samples, using a single solvent extraction step, resulting in decreased sample analysis and increased sample throughput [36].…”

“…Veterinary drug residue analysis of meat and seafood products is an important part of national regulatory agency food safety programs to ensure that consumers are not exposed to potentially dangerous substances [1]. Toussaint et al (2005) established a method for determination of quinolone antibiotic residues in pig kidney using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry [2].…”
