Laparoscopic Approach to Hepatic Hydatid Disease

Abstract: Background: The aim of this paper is to present our brief experience on laparoscopic hydatid cyst surgery; we estimated the reproducibility of used techniques in conventional surgery with this relatively recent and attractive method. Methods: Fifteen cysts in 12 selected hydatid disease patients were treated laparoscopically. Cystotomy, partial cystectomy and drainage were performed in 9 patients. Omentoplasty was added to the procedure in the remaining 3 cases. Results: The mean postoperative hospital stay wa… Show more

“…ELISA, indirect immune florescence antibody test, immune electrophoresis and immune blast tests are other modalities. 5,6,7,8,9 Compared to imaging method, serological assay are less expensive and easier to perform. Serology has high sensitivity for liver, 80-100%, and a lesser sensitivity of lung cysts 55% and even lesser sensitivity in other organ involvement, 25-56%.…”

“…The treatment of choice is still total cystopericystectomy, which reduces the frequency of intraoperative anaphylactic reactions and relapses [5]. Laparoscopic partial cystectomy or PAIR lead to results similar to those of open surgical and percutaneous techniques: anaphylactic reactions in 3% of cases and relapse in 3-10% of patients after a follow-up of 17 or 18 months [4,11,24]. Manterola et al [21] published a series of eight cases of laparoscopic total cystopericystectomy, with anaphylactic reactions and relapse in none of the patients after a mean follow-up of 30 months.…”

“…Otros, corresponden a reporte de casos y series pequeñas 51,[55][56][57][58] . Estos procedimientos presentan el riesgo de diseminación hidatídica y de problemas derivados de la formación de cavidades residuales; de hecho, en la serie más numerosa 51 , el porcentaje de conversión fue del 27%, y la morbilidad relacionada con el procedimiento del 25%, hecho que puede haberse relacionado con una selección inadecuada de los pacientes.…”
