Langmuir-Schaefer films of a poly(o-anisidine) conducting polymer for sensors and displays

Abstract: Langmuir-Schaefer (LS) films of poly(o-anisidine) (POAS) were fabricated and characterized by means of Brewster-angle microscopy, ellipsometry and electrochemical techniques. The studied optical, cyclic voltammetric and ellipsometric properties of films underlined a regular deposition up to at least 40 monolayers of POAS conducting polymer. The development of surface irregularities beyond 40 monolayers in LS films showed an electrochemical kinetic similar to electrodeposited films. More importantly, the electr… Show more

“…This is an indication of the self-healing nature of PPy:PSS with respect to the addition of subsequent layers. 47 For untreated multilayer films as seen in Figure 3, the surface morphology shows many plate-like Figure 3. AFM images of PPy:PSS composite (one-, three-, and five-layer) films: 1a, 3a, and 5a are without CuBr 2 treatment; 1b, 3b, and 5b are 0.5 M CuBr 2 treated; and 1c, 3c, and 5c is 1 M CuBr 2 treated.…”

“…Glutamate is an important neurotransmitter usually associated with brain damages [8] while ATP has been very recently associated to regulation of adaptive immune responses [9]. Several nano-materials have been proposed to improve devices performance including conductive polymers [10], nano-particles [11], graphene [12], and carbon nanotubes [13]. Recently, carbon nanotubes have been demonstrated to enhance the sensitivity for both exogenous [14] and endogenous [15] metabolites.…”
