“…This interpretation of a confined, submarine channel setting with steep-walls (e.g. Arzola et al, 2007) is consistent with that of Arbe & Hechem (1984) and also consistent with the regional palaeogeography.…”

“…Submarine channel systems serve as the primary conduits by which coarse-grained siliciclastic sediment is delivered from a continental shelf to the deep sea. The stratigraphic fill of submarine channels can be remarkably complex and consist of a wide range of facies, including fine-grained deposits from suspension settling, channelized coarse-grained sandstone and conglomerate, and mud-rich mass movements and debris flows (Clark & Pickering, 1996;Williams et al, 1998;Arzola et al, 2007;Deptuck et al, 2007;Jobe et al, 2011;Bain & Hubbard, 2016). Deposits of submarine channel systems (or channel belts) also vary significantly in size and morphology, with widths ranging from hundreds to more than 50 000 m, and thicknesses from 75 to 400 m (see Clark & Pickering, 1996, and references within;Harris & Whiteway, 2011;Jobe et al, 2016).…”
