Effects of recirculation leachate quality, hydraulic load and frequency on leachate from fresh municipal refuse were investigated in a bench-scale experiment. Recirculation hydraulic load and frequency can affect quality of lechate from fresh refuse. It is testified that the lower COD concentration of leachate re-circulated into the fresh refuse landfill layer contributed to the improvement of leachate quality in the refuse landfill layer. Higher hydraulic-load results in lower pH. Higher recirculation frequency results in lower pH during the hydrolysis and acidification phase and higher pH during the methanation phase. So during the start stage of leachate recirculation to the new landfilled refuse unit, low hydraulic load and low frequency should be adopted.
