Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome Associated with Synchronous Double Cancer: A Combination of Small Cell Carcinoma of the Cervix and Breast Carcinoma

Abstract: Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is most commonly associated with small cell lung carcinoma, while it is rarely associated with gynecological and breast carcinoma. We herein report a case of LEMS associated with synchronous double cancer, which was a combination of small cell carcinoma of the cervix and breast carcinoma. The early diagnosis and treatment of LEMS are important for achieving a good outcome. The possibility of accompanying paraneoplastic neurological syndrome must be sufficiently consider… Show more

“…2 There have been several terms used to refer to SCCC due to its low incidence, including small cell neuroendocrine tumors, small cell undifferentiated carcinoma, argyrophilic cell carcinoma, and endocrine intermediate cell carcinoma. 5,6 It was not until 2007 when the term small-cell carcinoma was used in the General Rules of Clinical and Pathological Management of the Uterine Cervix that SCCC was classified as an independent disease because of its distinct clinicopathologic characteristics, deteriorating clinical progression, and markedly poor prognosis. 2,7,8 SCCC is known to have a predilection for lymph node (LN) involvement during the early stages of the disease, leading to poor prognosis.…”

“…The occurrence and reporting of multiple cancers associated with breast cancer is common. Previous case reports (16)(17)(18)(19)(20)(21) have identified a number of types of multiple cancers associated with breast cancer, including skin cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, colon cancer, hematologic tumors, sarcomas, lung cancer, gynecologic tumors, thyroid cancer and urinary malignancies (16). There is a close association between breast cancer and gynecological tumors, especially ovarian cancer, because they share similar risk factors such as early menarche, advanced age without childbearing, obesity and high-fat diet (22,23).…”
