Lactoferrin-Chitosan-TPP Nanoparticles: Antibacterial Action and Extension of Strawberry Shelf-Life

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to produce lactoferrin (L) and chitosan (C) nanoparticles by ionic crosslinking with TPP and thereby increase the antimicrobial activity of biopolymers. The nanoparticles were synthesized in different proportions of biopolymers and TPP and characterized regarding their size, zeta potential, morphology, chemical interactions, structural characteristics and antibacterial activity. They were also applied as coatings on strawberries with the aim of increasing fruit shelf-life. Circ… Show more

“…Strawberry is a perishable fruit and its shelf life is not too much due to the physiological properties (Duarte et al, 2023). Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) is a well-proven method to extend the life of fresh fruit and vegetables (Alzuabi et al, 2023;Olveira-Bouzas et al, 2023. Although several research has been carried out on the effect of MAP on the shelf life of strawberries under different material films condition (Robles-Flores et al, 2018;de Oliveira Filho et al, 2022;pasha et al, 2023) no study (to the best of our knowledge) has been performed on the effect of cold plasma on the packaging film based on cellulose/chitosan nano-composite that leads to influence on the quality of strawberries.…”
