Lactobacillus heilongjiangensis sp. nov., isolated from Chinese pickle

Abstract: A Gram-stain-positive bacterial strain, S4-3 T , was isolated from traditional pickle in Heilongjiang Province, China. The bacterium was characterized by a polyphasic approach, including 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, pheS gene sequence analysis, rpoA gene sequence analysis, dnaK gene sequence analysis, fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) analysis, determination of DNA G+C content, DNA-DNA hybridization and an analysis of phenotypic features. Strain S4-3 T showed 97.9-98.7 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities, 8… Show more

“…heilongjiangensis had previously been found in traditional Chinese pickles (Gu et al, 2013) and was isolated here for the first time in sourdough (B23). It is a Gram-positive, catalase-negative, non-sporeforming rod and produces acid from many carbon substrates.…”

“…For honey bee, the intestinal tract was collected in a sterile tube containing 0.1 ml sterile normal saline and stored in 4 °C after homogenization. A loop of pickle juice or salt solution was directly streaked on modified MRS (mMRS; pH 6.2-6.4; consisting of 0.5 % peptone, 0.5 % meat extract, 1 [23]. On the basis of the colony morphology, presumptive different strains were picked and further purified.…”

“…In the present study, two novel strains, designated 1206-1 T and F027-1-2, isolated from traditional pickle in Heilongjiang Province (PR China) and from the intestinal tract of a honey bee (Apis mellifera) in Hubei Province (PR China) respectively, were characterized by a polyphasic approach. All strains were incubated aerobically at 30 °C on mMRS agar plates [23].…”

“…Reference strains are type strains of phylogenetically related species. All strains were incubated aerobically at 30 u C on mMRS (modified MRS) medium (Gu et al, 2013). DNA for gene amplification was prepared using genomic DNA extraction kits (TIANGEN).…”
