Lack of association between miR-218 rs11134527 A>G and Kawasaki disease susceptibility

Abstract: Kawasaki disease (KD) is a type of disease that includes the development of a fever that lasts at least 5 days and involves the clinical manifestation of multicellular vasculitis. KD has become one of the most common pediatric cardiovascular diseases. Previous studies have reported that miR-218 rs11134527 A>G is associated with susceptibility to various cancer risks. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding the relationship between this polymorphism and KD risk. The present study explored the correlation… Show more

“…As a post‐transcriptional regulator, it inhibits mRNA translation of target genes in the 3′ untranslated region (3′ UTR) by base pairing . In our previous research, several miRNAs associated with Kawasaki disease were discovered . This inspired our confidence, and by exploring further, we noticed miRNA‐196a2 rs11614913 T>C, which is reported to be closely related to cardiovascular diseases .…”

“…A total of 532 unrelated Chinese children who went to the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center were diagnosed with Kawasaki disease from January 2012 to January 2017. The control group was composed of 623 healthy Chinese children who went to the hospital for physical examination in the same period . Peripheral venous blood was taken from each child to extract DNA.…”

“…All participants recruited were unrelated Chinese Han individuals from southern China. A total of 623 healthy controls and 532 patients diagnosed with KD were recruited from January 2012 to January 2017 as we described previously . Two milliliters of fresh blood was collected from each participant, and 200 µL of each blood sample was employed to extract DNA.…”

“…The present study included 532 children who were diagnosed with Kawasaki disease from the Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center from January 2012 to December 2017 [ 17 ]. Diagnostic criteria referred to the 2004 American Heart Association recommendations [ 2 ], and 623 age- and gender-matched healthy children at the hospital in the same period for physical examination were also analyzed.…”
