• An in-depth review was conducted to address the weak current understanding of the potential influence of climate change on whiteflies. • Our study highlights the dynamism of the interactions between vector, natural enemies and transmitted viruses, and confirms that the impacts of climate change will vary widely depending on local circumstances. • Future efforts to manage whiteflies must be cognisant of the complex effects of climate on the agroecological systems inhabited by these globally important insects.
