“…These intial observations were not confirmed by Danowski and co-workers who found improvement of glucose tolerance to be slight and confined to juvenile onset diabetics (Narduzzi et al, 1967;Vester et al, 1970). They studied a total of 48 maturity onset diabetics given clofibrate for 3 months to 4 years but failed to show significant improvement of glucose tolerance (Danowski et al, 1966;Vester et al, 1970).…”

“…Miller (1963) reported that oral glucose tolerance was significantly improved in eighteen diabetics given clofibrate for up to 11 months and in the same journal Herriot et al (1963) described four patients receiving chlorpropamide who showed improvement of intravenous glucose tolerance after clofibrate treatment for 3 months. These intial observations were not confirmed by Danowski and co-workers who found improvement of glucose tolerance to be slight and confined to juvenile onset diabetics (Narduzzi et al, 1967;Vester et al, 1970). “…Data obtained in the first few months and the first year of therapy have been published previously. 4,7,27 The findings herein summarized are based on mean values recorded in the two groups prior to and at the end of 2 to 5 years of therapy. Measurements obtained several times each year were pooled and expressed as the mean value for that interval of time.…”
