Label‐free SERS monitoring of hydride reduction catalyzed by Au nanostars

Abstract: Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a promising molecular spectroscopic technique to study chemical reactions catalyzed by nobel metal nanoparticles. Herein, the Au nanostar (NS)‐catalyzed hydride reduction of 4‐nitrothiophenol to 4‐aminothiophenol chemisorbed at the metal/solution interface was followed by SERS. By developing a simple two‐step route, we demonstrated shape‐controlled synthesis and morphology‐dependent catalytic activity of AuNSs. The kinetic SERS monitoring of the reaction on the Au su… Show more

“…Koenig et al used SERS from Au nanostars as a lable‐free method to monitor hydride reduction. In contrast to the complex bifunctional nanostructures reported previously, this work shows that AuNSs are bifunctional nanostructures suitable for investigating Au‐catalyzed reactions . Liu and co‐workers studied induced SERS activity in Ag@SiO2/Ag core‐shell nanosphere arrays using a tunable interior insulator.…”

“…These contributions submitted by scientists from several continents to JRS nicely feature a diverse range of Raman spectroscopic approaches and their broad applicability. Many of the manuscripts deal with SERS, [1][2][3][4][5][6] others cover topics such as instrumental developments [7,8] and the application of Raman spectroscopy on biomolecular systems [9][10][11][12] and materials. [13,14] Wolfgang Kiefer worked throughout his impressive scientific career on pushing the limits of Raman spectroscopy, including the development of novel instrumental techniques, together with their application in a diverse range of scientific areas.…”
