“…On the other hand, the AS measured in this study also entails stronger agreement with keeping abortion secret, negative stereotypes about women who decide to undergo VTP and discriminatory and punitive behaviours towards them, along with greater disagreement with women’s autonomy to take decisions on their own reproductive sexuality. This means significant interference in the fulfilment of women’s reproductive rights in a country like Chile, where religion has a strong presence in the spheres of political decision-making and the legal debate on VTP is still open (Elgueta-Rosas et al, 2019; Morán-Faudes, 2013). In addition, religion is also present at university educational institutions, whose students in the healthcare fields reject abortion more than students at secular universities (Baba et al, 2020; Biggs et al, 2020), and in private healthcare institutions with the authority to declare themselves institutional conscientious objectors (Cabello-Robertson & Núñez-Nova, 2018).…”

“…In Chile, a deeply religious country ( Elgueta-Rosas et al, 2019 ), traditional mandates, that guide women’s sexuality, are based on the delay of their sexual initiation until a formal relationship, whereas men are encouraged to maintain broad sexual experience ( Benavente & Vergara, 2006 ). However, we do not have a measurement of the SDS with evidence of validity for its use on the Chilean population that allows us to state its incidence.…”
