Show more

“…Sinistral shear occurred along the northern margin of the eastern Xolapa complex between 29 and 24 Ma (Chacalapa shear zone, point 4 in Fig. 16l; Tolson 2005). Other sinistral transtensive deformation zones in southern Mexico outside the Xolapa complex are dated to between c. 37 and c. 27 Ma (points 1 and 3 in Fig.…”

“…Our sample was specifically taken to date low-T, high-strain mylonitic flow (c. 300 8C) along the Tierra Colorada (Riller et al 1992) or La Venta ) top-to-NW, sinistral-transtensional shear zone; synkinematic biotite is at 35 + 1 Ma. Sample ML-39, mylonitic gneiss at Pochutla, is from a narrow, late-stage shear zone in the regional Chacalapa shear zone along the northern edge of the eastern Xolapa complex; its major sinistral strike-slip stage is constrained at 29 -24 Ma (Tolson 2005;NietoSamaniego et al 2006). Our 15 + 2 Ma biotite age suggests reactivation, also indicated by faulting in the 29 + 1 Ma, post-mylonitic Pochutla granite (Herrmann et al 1994;Meschede et al 1996).…”

“…Keppie, 2004;Solari et al, 2007;Pérez-Gutiérrez et al, 2009). These rocks were displaced sinistrally along the La VentaChacalapa Fault during Eocene-Oligocene time (Ratschbacher et al, 1991;Riller et al, 1992;Tolson, 2005;Solari et al, 2007;Ratschbacher et al, 2009). The Acatlán and Oaxacan complexes are unconformably overlain by unmetamorphosed continental redbeds, siliciclastic fluvial deposits and shallow marine shelf sediments of Upper Permian to Middle Jurassic age (Fig.…”
