The digital revolution has transformed the ways of doing, acting, and training in the university field. For this reason, as an objective of this work, social media was used to generate and share knowledge related to sustainability, classification of living beings, and the functioning of the human body. The information was collected through questionnaires, that were completed before and after the intervention program, as well as the work carried out by the students. The participants were 131 students enrolled on the Primary Education degree course of the University of Murcia. The students were well aware of social media, although initially not their educational use. This perception changed when having to make concrete proposals with Instagram and Pinterest, since students valued the wide potential of the use of these networks in teaching. As a result of this intervention, 266 images were generated on Pinterest related to the classification of living beings and 67 about the devices and systems of the human body. Additionally, in terms of the activity on Instagram, 213 publications were created, reaching 1454 followers and 7885 likes. In addition, the participants recognized social media as a source of resources for education, and therefore teachers must explore all the possibilities they offer.

La competencia digital docente debe incluir, además de la utilización de medios tecnológicos y redes sociales aplicados a la educación, la interpretación de la información audiovisual y la creación y difusión de contenidos digitales, entre otros aspectos. En el presente trabajo, partiendo de una realidad concreta de estudiantes del Grado de Educación Primaria de la Universidad de Murcia, se les propone la realización de una actividad didáctica centrada en la sostenibilidad usando Instagram. Para valorar el trabajo realizado por el alumnado, se diseñó una rúbrica específica que aunase el abordaje de la cuestión científica planteada junto al desarrollo del pensamiento visual como estrategia didáctica. Tras la realización de la actividad, los 15 equipos de trabajo que se crearon, generaron mas de 200 publicaciones con una interacción en torno a 1,400 personas. El 73,3% de los trabajos elaborados obtuvieron una puntuación superior a la puntuación establecida como aceptable. Entre las conclusiones, destacamos que los futuros docentes, nativos digitales, tienen capacidades de manejo y uso de las redes sociales y tienen conocimientos científicos suficientes para su futura labor docente, pero encuentran dificultades a la hora de aunar ambos aspectos.

The rapid growth of “big data” provides tremendous opportunities for making better decisions, where “better” can be defined using any combination of economic, environmental, or social metrics. This essay provides a few examples of how the use of big data can precipitate more sustainable decision‐making. However, as with any technology, the use of big data on a large scale will have some undesirable consequences. Some of these are foreseeable, while others are entirely unpredictable. This essay highlights some of the sustainability‐related challenges posed by the use of big data. It does not intend to suggest that the advent of big data is an undesirable development. However, it is not too early to start asking what the unwanted repercussions of the big data revolution might be.
