L-Shaped Lipothighplasty

Abstract: The medial lifting technique defined as L-shaped lipothighplasty is a valid, fast, and safe technique and can reduce early and late postoperative complications in a critical and troublesome area for the surgeon who is going to correct the deformity.

“…Overall, 447 patients (age: 24-77 years) were treated in the 16 studies. Different surgical techniques were used for thighplasty: fascial anchoring,[ 8 9 ] concentric medial lift,[ 10 ] T-shaped technique,[ 5 11 ] double triangle technique,[ 12 ] scarpa lift,[ 13 ] vertical lift,[ 6 7 14 ] horizontal lift,[ 6 7 ] L-shaped technique,[ 15 ] and personal technique. Follow-up ranged from 0.5 month to 112 months.…”

“…Pooling the data, complications were observed in 191/447 patients (42.72%). The most frequent complications were: wound dehiscence (82/447 patients, 18.34%)[ 5 6 8 9 10 12 17 18 19 ] seroma (36/447 patients, 8.05%),[ 5 6 9 13 18 ] wound infection (21/447, 4.96%)[ 6 11 15 18 ] hypertrophic scarring (11/447 patients, 2.4%),[ 7 8 9 10 15 ] and scar migration (16/447 patients, 3.57%). [ 7 10 16 18 ] Rare complications were partial skin necrosis (one patient)[ 18 ] and lymph fistula (one patient).…”

“…If laxity and lipodystrophy is affecting the whole thigh, a full-length vertical thighplasty may be necessary, and among these techniques the T-scar has the strongest contouring potential. However, the greater contouring power must be weighed against the extent and visibility of the scars, the augmented risk of lymphatic rupture and the well-known issues of a T-point [17]. Capella and Matarasso [10] stated that 95 percent of dehiscences occurred at the intersection of the closure at the thigh perineal crease, and Gusenoff et al [18] reported 68 patients undergoing full length T-scar vertical thigh lift with 74% overall complication rate.…”

“…20 More recently, other authors have described their experience with combined liposuction medial thigh lifts. [21][22][23][24] However, studies directly comparing outcomes of standard excisional versus liposuction-assisted vertical medial thigh lifts in the massive weight loss population are lacking in the current literature.…”
