For several years now, military conflict, climate change, lack of food, and other forces have compelled many people around the globe to leave their countries and live in exile. As shown by exponentially increasing statistics, children are leaving their homes, sometimes their families, and their schools. Once they arrive in a country of resettlement, they face the challenge of new schooling. To understand how best to support these exile communities and those who work with them—students, their parents, teachers, schools—I searched the international literature for the main challenges of schooling refugee students in resettlement countries in the Global North. This literature review identifies the variety of their profiles, the challenges related to pre- and post-migration experiences, as well as all the intertwined issues taking place within the school: language learning, relationships with the teacher and with other students, teacher training, etc. These challenges are numerous and their intertwining only makes them more complex. Understanding them therefore seems to be the basis of any action in support of refugee education.

La question ethnique a toujours été polémique. Dans les années 1980, certains anthropologues ont estimé devoir s’en détourner afin de créer une rupture avec des représentations perçues comme liées à la colonisation. Dans les dernières décennies, nombre de chercheurs ont complexifié son approche théorique, et il importe de faire le point en relation avec les nouvelles conditions historiques, postcoloniales et postsocialistes, la généralisation du marché mondial et celle de la circulation des personnes et des biens, ainsi qu’avec le renforcement du phénomène diasporique. Les contributions à ce dossier montrent que, loin de s’apparenter à un archaïsme, les appartenances ethniques manifestent une réelle capacité d’adaptation dans un contexte toujours dominé par les entités nationales. L’identification ethnique, une des modalités de la perception de l’altérité, ne saurait cependant être limitée aux minorités. Ce dossier donne à connaître les points de vue de l’intérieur de ces appartenances à partir de terrains ethnographiques diversifiés : migrations entre Sénégal et France, marchandisation du « mariage marocain », pratique d’un islam mahorais, diaspora asiatique à Paris, soins ethnicisés à l’hôpital. Il apporte aussi de nouvelles approches théoriques en ouvrant la « situation ethnique » aux dynamiques de globalisation, ou en la différenciant des problématiques liées au racisme et aux discriminations
